Ancient Military Port Thassos
The ancient port of Thassos is the old and small port or the current port. Previously served as the military port of the ancient city which was closed and protected by two circular towers. Three gates secured the entry of seafarers in the city of Thassos and the ancient market. In the early Christian period was turned into a commercial port maintaining its current form.
Ancient Commerce Port Thassos
The commercial harbor of ancient Thassos is located in the Port area of Evreokastro near the current shipyard. Built outside the city walls. It was an open-port which was protected by a semicircular tower defense and communicated to the market through portals.
Use stopped in the 7th century BC. The remains are visible even today only, one meter below sea level.
